criminology of democracy, ideology and criminologyAbstract
The author reflects on the role of ideology in the discipline of criminology today, emphasizing the dangers and dead ends that come with scenarios springing both from the right and the left. As a social science, criminology cannot be identified with statistics or act as an instrument of political propaganda. As we move from a world of certainties to a world of uncertainties and a future we cannot forecast, fundamental questions arise about the relationship between ideology and criminology, that modern criminologists ought to consider.
