Abstract

The article presents an empirical study on fear of crime among students living in the city of Florina (Macedonia) and attending the Department of Psychology of the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM). The research was conducted by the Department of Psychology of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of the UoWM in collaboration with the Laboratory of Urban Criminology of the Department of Sociology of Panteion University, under the scientific supervision of Professor Christina Zarafonitou. The aim of the research was to investigate fear of crime and highlight problematic situations that concern the student population of the University of Western Macedonia, as well as to formulate proposals aimed at addressing fear of crime on the basis of the formulation and implementation of a rational anthropocentric crime prevention policy. These problems are either related to the criminal phenomenon, or they are situations that directly affect the students’ quality of life during their studies at the University of Western Macedonia.
